Rafflesia arnoldii - Up Close

Just got lucky to witnessed the blooming process of the largest flower on the earth - Rafflesia arnoldii, within my trip to Rhino Camp in Bukit Barisan Selatan - Lampung Province several weeks ago. Based on the explanation from one of the staffs in Rhino camp, this endemic plant of Indonesia takes about 7 - 9 months in the blooming process and just lasts for 4 - 5 days.

The first picture i took in my first day arrival in Rhino Camp and luckily in our third as well as last night in Rhino camp, this flower has started to bloomed. Too bad i had to leave in the afternoon before it reached a perfect blossom, but the whole process itself already amazed me. What a flower!

Another fascinating experience to remember :)
